Claiming Your Dancer Profile

How to claim an existing dancer profile and verify your identity.

If you see your name on Swingaround from competition results or video imports, you can claim that profile to make it yours. Claiming links the existing data (results, videos, followers) to your account so you don’t have to start from scratch.

How claiming works

1. Verify your email

Before you can claim a profile, you need to confirm the email address on your account. Check your inbox after signing up for a verification link, or request a new one from Settings. This keeps the community safe by making sure every claim is tied to a real email.

2. Find your profile

During onboarding, Swingaround searches for unclaimed profiles that match your name. You can also find profiles by browsing the dancer directory or searching by name. If you see your profile, hit “Claim this profile.”

3. Verification

Once you submit a claim, it goes through a short verification process. How long this takes depends on the profile:

  • New or small profiles (no competition history, no followers) are verified quickly, often within seconds.
  • Well-known profiles with competition results, videos, or followers get a short review window. This protects well-known dancers from impersonation.
  • If someone in the community knows you, they can vouch for your claim to speed things up. You’ll see a vouch link on the profile page while your claim is pending.

You can still fill in your profile details, join communities, and use the platform while verification is in progress. The only things that wait for verification are accepting payments and creating paid courses.

4. Verified badge

Profiles that have been verified through community vouches, email matching, or admin review get a Verified badge visible on your profile and on event pages where you’re listed as a teacher.

What if someone claims your profile?

If you notice someone has claimed a profile that belongs to you, you can contest it directly from the profile page. You don’t need a Swingaround account to submit a contest. An admin will review it and sort things out.

Good to know

  • You can only have one dancer profile at a time. If you already have one, you can’t claim another.
  • If your email matches the one an organizer has on file for a dancer, your claim may be verified instantly.
  • After claiming, you can edit your profile, update your bio, and add highlights from your profile’s edit page.
  • For more on what you can do with your profile, see Setting Up Your Profile.
