• A password (stored using bcrypt one-way hashing -- we never store your plaintext password)
• Dance style preferences (e.g., Balboa, Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz)

Profile Information

If you create a dancer profile, we may also collect:

• Profile photo and bio
• Dance roles and experience level
• Links to social media or personal websites
• Organizational affiliations

Content You Create

We store content you voluntarily submit, including:

• Notes, journals, and practice session logs
• Video metadata, tags, clips, and comments
• Messages sent through the inbox system
• Clubhouse posts and comments
• Event forms, surveys, and their responses
• Support tickets

Competition Data

If you participate in competitions managed through Swingaround, we collect competition entries, judge scores, round results, and placement data. Competition results are public by default. You may request that your results be hidden from public view by contacting us.

Payment Information

We use Stripe to process payments for event registrations and course subscriptions. We do not store your credit card number, bank account details, or other sensitive payment information on our servers. Stripe receives and processes this data directly under their own privacy policy. We store only a Stripe customer ID and basic transaction records (amount, date, status) for our bookkeeping.

Automatically Collected Information

When you use Swingaround, we automatically collect:

• IP address and browser user-agent string
• Pages visited and actions taken (for application functionality and debugging)
• Device type and screen size
• Push notification subscription data (if you opt in)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the Swingaround platform
• Authenticate your identity and manage your account
• Process event registrations and course subscriptions
• Calculate and publish competition results and placements
• Send transactional emails (account confirmations, password resets, event updates, competition notifications)
• Deliver push notifications you have opted into
• Enable messaging and community features (inbox, clubhouses)
• Display the video library and enable tagging, commenting, and clip creation

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising or behavioral profiling.

Swingaround uses cookies for the following purposes:

• Session cookie: Required to keep you logged in as you navigate the site. This cookie expires when you close your browser or after a period of inactivity.
• Remember-me cookie: If you choose "remember me" at login, a persistent cookie is stored so you do not need to log in again on that device. You can clear this by logging out.

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. YouTube embeds may set their own cookies, which are governed by Google's policies.

We retain your account data and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain records (for example, payment transaction records for tax and accounting purposes).

Competition results that have been published may be retained in anonymized or aggregated form even after account deletion, as they form part of the public historical record of swing dance competitions.

Regardless of where you are located, we provide the following rights to all users:

• Access: You may request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
• Correction: You may update or correct your personal data at any time through your account settings or dancer profile.
• Deletion: You may delete your account through your account settings. You may also request deletion by emailing us. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
• Data export: You may request an export of your data in a machine-readable format by contacting us.
• Withdraw consent: Where we rely on your consent to process data (e.g., push notifications), you may withdraw consent at any time through your settings.
• Opt out of public competition results: You may request that your competition results not be displayed publicly by contacting us.

If you are in the EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Our legal basis for processing your personal data is:

• Contract: Processing necessary to provide the services you signed up for (account management, event registration, competition participation).

Swingaround is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Swingaround is operated from the United States. If you access the platform from outside the United States, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using Swingaround, you consent to the transfer of your data to the United States.
