We were initially unaware during the competition. We want to assure everyone that we have listened to these concerns, and will continue to do so. This attire expresses the attendee’s point of view. ILHC strives to balance respect for individual expression while still creating an inclusive environment. Our intention is to never allow harm to anyone at our events. While this action by the competitor was not against our polices at the time, we are in the process of reevaluating those policies and will consider implementing clearer regulations for future events. We want to stress that everybody is welcome to continue entering our spaces (within the bounds of our codes of conduct). We believe in peaceful coexistence. In regard to the conflict between Israel and Palestine: it is our wish that everybody be safe, a ceasefire happens soon, and all hostages be returned. We value your feedback and remain open to conversation. If you would like to reach out to us, you can do so at feedback@ilhc.com. Thank you for your understanding.

HDC 2024 Week 2 - Show #1 Next Generation Project

HDC 2024 Week 2 - Show #1 Next Generation Project

A special night is organized for Ms. Sugar Sullivan and Ms. Barbara Billups to honor their remarkable life and contributions to Lindy Hop. The Next Generation Project* performed a showcase for that special night. In this show: Host is Chester Whitmore. Singers are Ursula Hicks and Justin D. Davis. Dancers are from left to right Rachel Brown, Sean Vitale, Candice Michelle Franklin, Tyedric Hill, Alyssa Monet Beard, Brandon Barker. Musicians are Maka The Monkey (drums), Benjamin Bitterling (bass), Jerome Arlet (guitar), Florian Gebhardt (piano) *The Next Generation Project (NGP) is Herräng Dance Camp's commitment to respond to the Elders’ dream of raising a new generation of vibrant, committed young black American dancers who are well-schooled in the art and its history. NGP aims to strengthen and train its participants in classical Lindy dance technique, surround project participants with American and international mentors, and inspire participants to grow their dance communities while sharing the true history and technique of Lindy Hop and Vernacular Jazz. HDC is sponsoring ten NGP participants during Week 2. We thank the Frankie Manning Foundation for sponsoring an additional two. During this summer, participants were connected to internationally renowned master teachers. Through this shared experience, we sincerely hope they created bonds of mutual support to sustain them when they return to the US. Participants had history classes, learned how to negotiate teaching and performing contracts, built this movement in their respective communities, and took daily dance technique classes, culminating in a performance before the whole camp on Tuesday night. In order to continue with this project, your financial support is vital to the success of this project. NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL. Please help us continue to respond to the Elders' hopes by following there instruction to make your contribution.
