St.Louis Shag dancers & The Schwings Band feat. Migloko

A little collaboration project between Vilnius dancers and the local swing band. *** Rokas Borusevicius and Simona Pogosian started teaching St. Louis Shag Dance in 2014 and since then they’ve gathered a group on enthusiasts whom they love to practice with together or simply share the social dance floor. One of the recent ideas was to create a little video together with the live band to introduce Vilnius dancing scene and simply enjoy dancing to a great live music. St. Louis shag is a swing dance that evolved from Charleston. As its name suggests, it is recognized as being started in St. Louis, Missouri. It is a very fast closed position dance that is often done to up-tempo swing, rock’n’roll, stomp, jump, and boogie-woogie music. Typically, dancers transition freely between shag and jitterbug steps. *** The Schwings Band is one of the first bands in Lithuania to play authentic early swing and gipsy jazz, and do so with passion. In addition to their music, listeners relish their artistic skill, their relationship with the audience, and the sheer joy of their performance. Mr R.Rančys (saxophone) leads the band from the very start and is well deserving of his title of one of the most prolific musicians of his generation in Lithuania. He is involved in projects and collaborations with numerous musicians and across an array of genres. "In our recent collaboration with the well-known performer Migloko, we have created a unique repertoire of authentic jazz. Her mellow and strong voice is an ideal match. Migloko has a brilliant musical intuition, and I'd say, almost a sixth sense. I have invited her to perform because having spent significant time in the Netherlands, she comes to Vilnius now more and more often" said Mr. Rančys. *** Migloko is a definition-defying musical phenomenon, a natural force, and a philosophy. Behind this pseudonym is a young artist, based in Lithuania and the Netherlands. Music lovers first heard Migloko perform six years ago. And since she has proven her ability to juxtapose distant genres in the present moment. Migloko is interested not only in music but also art, film, playwriting, and contemporary dance.
