Frankie Manning's talk at his first Canadian workshop weekend, held in Toronto, January 1996
The talk was held at the Saturday Night Swing Dance Party of the weekend, at the Palais Royale, Toronto, January 1996. It featured Frankie's talk at the start of the night, the Vic Lawrence 7 orchestra, and of course Frankie leading the Shim Sham.
This was the first time Frankie was in Toronto since performing here in 1952.
Frankie Manning (1914-2009) played a major role in Lindy Hop in the 1930s and 40s, and in the Lindy Hop revival in the late 1980s and the 1990s. He is remembered and loved by Lindy Hoppers around the world.
The original Vic Lawrence 7 no longer exists, but there is a new Vic Lawrence 7 orchestra in Toronto led by Toby Hughes based on the original Vic Lawrence 7 book/charts given to Toby by Vic Lawrence. It is an outstanding classic Swing band, as was the original Vic Lawrence 7.
